Annual Bunny Hop Scheduled For April 19
Solutions Center Shelter & Support Services, Inc. will be hosting its 3rd annual Bunny Hop 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 19, at the Lakeside Park Pavilion. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the 5K starting at 9 a.m. A half-mile fun dash for children and an Easter egg hunt will follow.
This community event is held during Child Abuse Prevention Month and seeks to raise awareness of child abuse in our community.
Child Abuse Prevention Month started in 1983 to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the majority of child abuse cases stem from situations and conditions that can be preventable when community programs and systems are engaged and supportive.
The Bunny Hop is family friendly, but caters to serious or elite runners. Childcare is provided. Younger children can meet the Easter Bunny and participate in a coloring contest. Older children are invited to do the half-mile fun dash with awards given for the top three finishers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions. Everyone is welcome to participate in the Easter Egg Hunt.
The event will be timed, with awards given to the top three finishers overall in the men’s and women’s divisions. First place finishers in both divisions will receive awards in the following age categories: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and older. All participants will receive a T-shirt.
The entry fee is $20 per adult and $10 per child 12 and under. The fee for children 12 and under running with an adult is $5.
