THOSE WE'VE HELPED: domestic violence testimonialMs. Brown is a 40 year-old woman with four children who has been married for 15 years. Ms. Brown was forced to leave her home due to domestic violence. According to Ms. Brown, her husband and his family were abusive to her. Ms. Brown heard from a friend about Solutions Center's programs and came to us for help. Initially, she came once a week with her children to our support group, connecting with other women, and learning ways to stay safe while living in an abusive relationship.
When her situation became life threatening, she decided to leave her home. She indicated that her husband tried to kill her by attempting "to throw me out of the window." Ms. Brown was clearly in a crisis. She was scared, confused and anxious. Her stay at the Women's Shelter was definitely a trying period for her. She had to acclimate herself to a completely different environment. She was distressed about where her children would attend school. Our Child and Teen Advocate helped her to get her children enrolled in school, and worked with the children during this stressful time.
During her stay at Solutions Center Women's Shelter, Ms. Brown received counseling services, intensive case management and supportive services. A legal advocate helped her through the process of filing for a restraining order and beginning divorce proceedings.
Ms. Brown secured permanent housing and was very happy to move to her new apartment. She continues to receive therapy Solutions Center from our Child and Family Therapist. Now, Ms. Brown has a better outlook on her future and appears very happy. She seems more confident and secure. She was very thankful for all the services provided to her during her stay. |
